I noticed that a lot of users, especially new ones, always try to add pics to their posts using...
[img][/img].

And they also try posting links like this...
[url][/url].

I think I could add this functionality to these forums too, if you want. It uses the same concept as the smileys. In fact, I could write the code so that you could post images and/or links both ways. What do you all think? Might make it easier for new members to post stuff.

By the way, I don't know where posting like this came from. I did some searches to find out and can't find any kind of history. I think it was invented to make it easier, but I don't see it being any easier then using conventional code like this... <img src="PutImagePathHere"> or <a href="PutLinkPathHere">This Is The Link Text</a>

Anyway, I am always looking for ways to improve things and if this helps, I think it might work...

Waddya think?

If it isn't much trouble I would add the other as well....many new members are use to the other way as a high number of sites recognize that language....it may be easier and this will also not deter members from posting pictures....just my thoughts.... smile smiley

By the way, BigBite,

I just noticed you made Senior Member. I want to thank you for all your posts and the contributions you have made to My Fishing Pals. Are you still working in enforcement? I haven't seen too many posts from you concerning laws a regs lately....

The BBcode stuff is what you're talking about Webdude. PHP Nuke boards and a lot of "Bulletin Board" templates use it, such as Catch-n.com when they don't want to bother with all of the work you've done setting up a board like this. Nothing wrong with using a template site though, it saves a ton of time.

It might be easier for some people, since a lot of people still haven't learned how to post links with html commands either.

I prefer the regular old html stuff myself since it's not difficult if you're taught once.

It would be helpful to have BBcode, not only because most forums use it, so people are used to it, but also when I do my Fishn reports I post them on about 6 or so forums, so I just do it once, then copy it and post it on the other forums. But I also hope you keep what you got too, it is really neat to watch video clips posted on the forum without opening the photobucket website! smile smiley smile smiley
