Welcome kid56,

My go to bait is the Senko Worm made by Gary Yamamoto Baits, I have always had good luck with these baits. To learn how to use them go to Gary Yamamoto's web site he has all the information you need there.

I like the good old jointed in gold or silver floating. You can run them just under the surface in the morning and just over the weeds in the late day. work great.

I also like the Rapala Original floater #5 in silver twitching it on the surface in the early spring usually triggers a hit, but you have to wait 30 seconds to a minute in between twitches, if their in that area they will be watching and when you twitch it and their ready they will slam it on the surface. What a blast!

I am a big fan of jerkbaits in particular the rapala x rap. I have caught a ton of fish on them and I know buddies that have too.

When I bass fish, which is July -August a buzz bait for top water is my go too bait. I also like to work a zara spook or jitterbug made by Arborgast.
If they are not hitting top water than I move to deeper water off of sharp breaks & carolina or texas rig a worm.

It is really going to depend on the water you are fishing, the depth, the clarity, the temp, etc. The tried and true go to lures that I use to draw strikes when I'm in the money on the Mississippi are:

1. 3/8 oz to 1/2 oz white spinnerbait with a colorado blade (Culprit or Stanley) with a white Yum trailer

2. All-Terrain Swim Jig or Grassmaster Jig in white or blue/black

3. Gulp Turtle Back 7" Texas Rigged or a Wacky Crawler

4. Culprit Tassel lizard on a Carolina rig

5. Booyah Buzzbait with clacker

6. Bronze Eye Frog from Spro (Black or Orange Belly)

7. Rat-l-trap, bleeding bass pattern

As for Rapalas, I like the Shap Rap.

This is all excellent advice. Take bits and pieces from everyone and you will be set to go. Make sure you get some small spinner baits and some small plastics and then decide what else you would like to learn.

Good Luck and Good Fishing!!
