Hey All, Ice conditions have greatly improved the last week, here on Vermilion. We have 14 inches of good clear ice in the McKinley park area of Big Bay. I have been on the ice driving my 3/4 ton Silverado for the last several days, without a mishap.
The Walleye fishing has been pretty good the last few days. I am also catching a number of bonus Jumbo Perch, along with the Walleyes. Small glow jigs and spoons are whats working. Tip them with a head of a shiner, or chub and you're all set.
My ice shack is in 27ft over soft bottom right now and the Walleyes seem to like that location. The best action comes in the early morning and the middle of the afternoon. The night bite is primarily a eelpout festival, so you may not want to waste your time after dark.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
