What should I say to that?
It's true some guys do not know how to use it & it will not be a producer for them.
I'm trying to teach you something here ,but you do not want to hear it.
that's o.k. You caught fish before you met me& you'll continue to.Only why get skunked if you do not have too?
Anyone can get a fish on an aggresive feed.
What do you do ,like on BSL when I caught 20 crappies&gills to your 2(small eye & rocky).
They bit light & I barely saw the spring twitch.Something you'll never see on a noddle rod yet you do not like springs. So you did not see the hit & did not get any crappies either.
Iceman, nothing changes if nothing changes.I'm no better a fisherman than you ,but my gear gives me a better chance.

Everyone can get fish. There is no luck to it.

The name of the game is usually versatility.

The Jig is the way to go when fish are tight lipped but I know I have had times when the fish seem to want something bigger. Or there are also times when a leech will out fish a small minnow.

Some lakes it will depend on what the most common forage is, on one lake I fish if you want to catch gills in the summer you better be using a leech or crawler or you wont be catching anything.

Every lure has its time and place, I think the Jig can work in ALOT of situations but I am sure there are times when it isn't the best bait option.

But you also have to take into account your confidence in a lure. Its so hard for a fisherman to use a new lure they haven't used before becuase it means they are putting down their favorite lures that have been proven to work. Although the new lure may work better its hard to be confident in it intially.

I should also add that the spring is important, I can feel alot with my ice rods but why not add something that will give you even more sensitivity? The spring will help you with really any presentation. If you are bobber fishing the bobber won't show you much if the fish are hitting the bait and then swimming up with it.

You are correct in what you say.
Where does a guy go to get leeches now? What about crawlers?

Open water is what you are talking about. We are ice fishing NF.
All's I was trying to get to is that you need the correct gear & proper technique to get the jig to work.

The fish will hit the jig on aggresive days too even faster as they are aggresive.
I know what the jig does in fish catching & anything contray to how it works will get hashed over.
You see I do not care if you do not want to use it.Fine and dandy, but do not think you know ,when you don't know.
I'll be the first guy to admit I do not know all of the tricks to whatever, but I do know T.H.E. Jig & I've taught several guys how to be deadly with it.

So use whatever bait you want, but when they will not hit a big minnow try downsizing or up sizing for that matter.Once you figure out the pattern ,you have it.Fishing becomes catching.

I'll be posting MORE slabs as they come from this weekend from the jig.
I'm at around 1000 crapies for 4 weekends of fishing,50 bluegills,20 walleyes all from 1 hole from 4 different lakes.

Besides Kevin & Jobahahn ,noone else is using them, much less fishing.
Those 2 will tell you how well they work.
I've got guy's from other sites using them cause they are out fishing now & they love them.
I'll stop blowing my horn, but without my pics and video for proof it looks like I am lyeing.
Heck SB's son even managed to get a few from the jig & he's a rookie!

I'm just waiting for some ice now. I checked a few of my lakes in the area and they don't look to good. Lake Marion in the south metro is still about 50% open water. A few guys were out fishing the edges but I am not that brave/stupid.

Mille Lacs in just over a week, I am looking forward to it. Hopefully Twin Pines will have their houses out by then.

I have heard some reports of ice on Mille Lacs anywhere from 7-12 inches depending on what part of the lake. I am thinking it should be alright with another week of temps getting down to about 20 degrees at night.

Talk with my dad last night and he lives up in the Mille Lacs area and said that they had roads around the Garrison area....get out while you can because the way that this winter has been, you never know if you are going to have ice or not...he said the houses were out as far as you could see...always remember to be safe out there....
