Crappie Keith:

I can just see you with a small Xmas tree in your ice hut placing bows and ribbons on all those slabs!

Jig order is forthcoming.

Twas the night before Christmas
I was out on the ice.
Not a walleye was biting,
just a keeper would have been nice!

I tied on a T.H.E. Jig
and took great care
to make it a loop-knot so it moved freely,
the jig would pivot in air.

I lowered the "meatless wonder"
down into the deep...
then watched my Vexilar
looking for bleeps.

When along came a signal
that covered my screen...
it lit up like a christmas tree,
raising to my lure (if you know what I mean)!

I felt a light tap,
and said "hello there my friend".
My spring bobber quivered
bet over nearly double and then bent over again.

I set the hook with plenty of force
and I shouted with glee, "fish on, you hosers...
come look at that size of this one".
"hey everyone... come see".

This fish had a mission and that was to get away.
It ran three hard long runs...
Finally it headed up the icehole.
"My kingdom for a gaff", I heard myself say.

I reached into the icy water
and placed my finger inside a gill.
I lifted up slowly, felt the weight of the pike.
Man-o-man, this was a thrill.

"Grab the camera someone...
this is gonna go real quick!"
I wanted to cpr on this big one.
I did not have my De-liar, or even a yard stick.

But I got a photo of this monster
before we were through
and slid her back in the icehole
where she is still swimming out there...
just waiting for you!

Maybe next Christmas you'll get bit
and have fun in catching this 27 lb fish (if you are able).
I hope you also have the great thrill
of releasing it,
and not make it into a dish (for your dinner table).

I'll remember that tiny little jig,
and the battle on the 4 lb test line.
And the HUGE Northern Pike
I decided to let go,
at Christmas time. - Hoggie

Merry Christmas to all at MFP.
Have a happy and safe new year.
