FISHING REPORT LAKE OF THE WOODS/RAINY RIVER BAUDETTE TOURISM DECEMBER 18,2006
Well if you like to ice fish Lake of the Woods is the place to be. The reports from the area resorts cant get any better than they have been lately. Fishing in depths of 20-24 feet with shiners being the preferred bait. Gold and glow are still the favorite jigs of choice, but there has been luck along the south shore with buck shot rattle spoons and demons. Walleyes from 15-18 inches are the limits that are being sent home along with their limit of Saugers. And if you are looking to add to your trophy wall there has been several Walleye over 10lbs. If Northern Pike is your choice of fish there has been reports caught from the range of 29 inch to 40 inch.
Below freezing temperatures overnight has built up the ice on Lake of the Woods to 13-14 inches. The forecast for this week has teens overnight with daytime highs hitting 30. Perfect ice/fishing conditions.

Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
