I have been reading posts for the past couple of months and I have to say, this site seems to be degenerating into a personal blog for just general conversation. It seems a large portion of the posts are just ridiculous crap that has nothing to do with fishing, or hundreds of posts trying to sell something. I am close to just calling it quits. There was a time when most of the users posted some pretty good stuff. Now we end up with 5 pages of posts about becoming a senior member or a discussion on the color pink. What has happened here? I thought this was supposed to be a site about fishing? We used to have a lot of guides and some resorts posting here. I can see why they stopped. A lot of the stuff is useless junk that has nothing to do with anything, much less fishing. I know if I was a professional guide, I am not sure I would want to be associated with this stuff. What happened to Fireball, Vermilion, Captron, Captjon, VoyageurNorth, Navigator, justnorth, CaptSteve, MineralMan, esox stalker, Bass_fishingguy, garytheguide, ChrisWallace, crow, etc., etc.? A lot of these guys are guides and they used to post very good stuff.

Maybe they got tired of weeding through all the junk that gets posted now days. Or maybe they just don't want to be associated with the junk... mmmm?

That's hilarious Jiggle.
I've posted many different topics on how too catch fish & never once have you replied.
I also do not see you adding anything worth while. Where are your fishing stories? Where are your fishing pics?

It sure is easy taking pot shots from the comfort of your lazyboy!
Some of us actully do fish!
If you do and you belong to this site as a registered member than why not talk about it. Share your expierences with us.
I know several people here and relate with them on different levels.
Are you saying that because we show our friendships here we have driven those other guys away?
People come and go.It may be the lack of content you provide that drives them away, have you concidered that?

Also half the guys you mentioned, this is there off season. They could be doing other things, but you'd prefer to point your finger at those of us trying to add content & make this site growand say we drove them away.Get real Jiggle or JJ if I'm correct!

We also have different thread lines here.
Some are for fishing reports, some are for general talk, some for controtopics& hey there is one for nothing related to fishing what so ever.Go figure.

Well you baited me in set the hook!

I have been reading posts for the past couple of months and I have to say, this site seems to be degenerating into a personal blog for just general conversation. It seems a large portion of the posts are just ridiculous crap that has nothing to do with fishing, or hundreds of posts trying to sell something

Just because you are ignorant, there is no reason to spread it to others.
I can see why you may think it's a blog,it is. Of fishing & bullshooting, just like it is on the ice.
Maybe you should go out & see what is like to fish on the ice with the guys.
I'll post every day.Pics and videos that shows you and evryone else that what I'm saying works. Is it that which is why we are here to get new methods, learn new tricks or old tricks.
I'm not saying you have to buy my jig,get someone else then, downsize is what I'm selling tactics ,but when you go out & get skunked, which is maybe why you don't fish anymore.Maybe there's a better way,but instead of swallowing your pride you'll point fingers.
O.k. I get where you come from.

ooo smileyWhoooah! Jiggle is angry at everyone for not posting his way...maybe it's your attitude that's got people quiet. Have you posted some good stuff lately? Maybe you should....or maybe you have nothing good to say.
Personally I like the stories and the pictures. Keep them coming guys. A wider array of fishing reports would be nice....anyone fish Whaletail lake?

Jiggle's not a bad sort. He is actually one of the original users here. He used to post a lot of good info in the past, usually from Mille Lacs and Leech. I guess some things have changed and some find that hard.

He is right though, about the guide thing. I'm not putting down the current users, but this site has evolved quite a bit into walleye and crappies. We used to get a lot of reports from Mille Lacs, Leech, LOTW, Minnetonka, Waconia, Gull (Ted - you still fish there? - Ice?). We had several skippers from Lake Superior that posted quite a bit (they brought a whole different slant to the site with loopers and salmon). We used to get a lot of reports on trout, up the shore and from many of the trout streams down south. Used to get good smallie reports from the 'Ssippi too. Bucketmouths too!

I have emailed some of these older users and asked if they would like to join in again. Some of the emails are bad so I cannot get a hold of them. Others either have not responded or have moved out of the area.

One thing I have noticed in running this forum is it seems to evolve through users. Some fall off and others join in. Kind of like a revolving door. I wish I could figure out a way to get most to stay, that would be great.

Another thing, and I thought I should mention this, I still get new users signing up daily, sometimes up to 5 a day (not as good as when the "Thread That Wouldn't Die" was at its peak), but not bad either. What is really wierd is that these people take the time to fill out the form, and they put in a password, pick a username, etc. and then they don't post ooo smiley So what's the deal with that? I think if I went through the trouble of joining I would at least post something. I believe some think that if they join they can get different or better information then what is in the forum. Well, whether you are a user or not, the info you read is the same. Another reason I think for all these "no posters" is that they join to check out the chatroom, go in there and see no one else is in there, then they leave. These are the only explanations I got.

And what about the lurkers shocked smiley shocked smiley shocked smiley???? I have seen up to 120 guests online looking at stuff... MAN it would be SA-WEET to be able to tap into them people. But you can't force people to join, and if they do join, you can't force them to post.

It seems this is a slow process... but it is getting better all the time. We are averaging about a hundred posts a day, that's not bad. When this site first started, we could go a week without a post.

That's all I gotta say is Hang On! We'll see where this all takes us. This site seems to have a life of its own. I know I don't have any control over it. It seems to be growing all by itself and I am just here to make sure it stays up and things run smooth grin smiley

Isn't that from when (on the bumped thread earlier this week) the site's database was lost and most of the members started over?

Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!
