My father passed away just last year -- right before Christmas -- and I can so relate on how that affects someone. This is a tough Christmas, not only because of my father's death, but because it finds my wife and I between ministry and living with family - been way over a year since we had to move out of our home -- partly due to Hurricane's in Pensaocla.

But to be close to family - to see my three children grown and on their own -- what a blessing.

I want to wish EVERYONE a very very Wonderful Christmas !!!!

Please dont blame me for a BROWN CHRISTMAS !!!! I will try to better next year !!!

I prefer WHITE Christmas with at least a foot of snow on the ground.. but.. you can keep the Christmas Carols.. I worked in a convenience store for 9 years and they really get old fast after a straight month of listening to them.

The holiday itself I'm into the idea of it, give gifts, do the family thing, cook a big meal, but I'm *not* a religious "soul" even in one toe-nail.

Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!

I too had a relative pass 2 days before Christmas, in 1982 my great aunt--who was like a grandmother to us--was killed in her house, the police said she walked in while the brother of her neighbor--who had just gotten out of prison after 18 years--was robbing the place, he shot her and then set her Christmans tree and house on fire (yes they caught the guy and I believe he is still in prison). I was only 9, but I remember the police banging on our door at 5 in the morning to tell my dad. The police had to come b/c my aunt's cousins, who lived two houses from her, didn't have our phone number but they knew where we lived so they called the local police, who came to our house. My dad and grandmother left that day for Pennsylvania where she lived and they were gone at Christmas. My dad came back on Jan. 30 and took my brother and I back w/him on New Years, the scene was bizarre, very sad, we went in the house, etc. and it was awful.

Needless to say, Christmas has never been quite the same, but now that I am married w/my own family, and my sister and many of my friends have kids, the excitement they show around Christmas has started to rub off a little, and although I don't think I will ever not be at least a little bit of a bah-humbugger, I've refused to let my reasons for not enjoying Christmas ruin their holidays, and I've tried to focus on when Christmas was exciting for me. In doing so, I remember getting my first real fishing rod, my dad was not an outdoorsman at all, but we learned how to fish from friends and parents of friends and my dad knew I loved it so he bought me rods, reels, tackle, etc. so I could do what I liked.

So, Merry Christmas to all, and if you don't celebrate Christmas for whatever reason(s) then I hope you have a wonderful season and that the New Year finds us all happy & healthy.
