It could not of been nicer today on the ice !!! Quite a few where in t shirts !!! Now if the fish would of been biting !!! The three lakes we tried where murky and cloudy - not sure if the wave action before first ice is the cause or just the way it is. Saw fish but could not find those feeding. Did hear of a few pike and panfish being put on the ice but no big numbers.

With the very very cold weather we had this past week and now today -the very nice weather today - the ice was cracking and shifting big time -- for not being on the ice for five years - gotta admit it seemed a bit "spooky" sometimes.

Heard of three cars that went through -- and saw the results of one on Grace Lake -- even with 8 plus inches it was not safe enough !! So I guess unless you are 100% postive -- better get someone to help drag the house out. One thing about hard water people they are friendly and helpful !!

Hope to hear reports from others and see pictures of the catch !!!

pastorlight ,
you ever get up to the north end of Lake Bemidji for them early ice monster pike yet ?

As far as the lakes that are dark and cloudy they are still turning over i'v seen it take all winter or even a few days.
yes, they are safe as long as you got a good 4'' under you..

no problem..

thats just one of the lakes i like to fish while i'm in the area..

also check out big grant on the east side for some of the nicest pike and eyes..

little grant holds a few nice pannies too.

the grant lakes i'm talking about are south of wilton..

p.s
stay clear or the chanle that goes from big grant to little grant it stays open most of the winter..
