Well, BD, this would be kind of tough to do since this is a non-profit site. Last I heard, it costs money to do stuff like that. Wish I could... there are some things that for profit sites definitely have over this one... That main thing being money. It would be nice to have a budget to do something like this. I get asked, occasionally, about this kind of stuff, booths at shows, caps, t-shirts, and other stuff that would promote this site. The truth is folks, anything I do comes out of my own pocket. Puts me at a slight disadvantage.
I really don't have sour grapes, though. I mean, look at what can be done with just a computer! Of course, there is a little experience in this sort of stuff too. That helps. I know I rant about this, but it has gotten to the point where I want to see how far I can take this site without spending anything. I think it has been going very well! At the top in major search engines, new users signing up daily (though the new user to 1st post ratio could be better), a great bunch of knowledgable users, etc., etc., etc. Did you know that I have close to 1000 sites that link to this site? I think that is pretty good.
I do get asked for a stack of business cards that I could put at other booths. I have been vacillating on whether to print them or not. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and do just that. Other sites like Catch-n have offered to let me do this. That's one of the reasons why I support those sites so much. It's one of the reasons why I think you should support them too.
Did you know I have had several offers on this site? Don't worry though, I don't think I would ever sell it. Ah yes... the Great American Dream - the ability to take nothing and turn it into something. Someday, I may put someone's banner on a page and start making some money, but not now or in the near future. I have posted this in the past - I have been contacted by some very big companies about advertisement on this site. I tell them all that I may do this in the future. The thing is, I worry about what would happen to this site if I did that. I mean, I would like to keep any bias out of anything that has to do with this site. I'll tell you what, though, If I ever decided to add some sponsors and/or advertisers here, I would make it very clear in any contracts and/or agreements that any posts in the forums would remain in the forums whether they liked it or not. That's the way I see it.
whew
You got me goin', BD... On the soapbox again!

i am going to try to get over there this weekend if I can find the time. I live about 2 miles away so it seems a shame for something to be so close and not attend it.
I usually make it to the sportsman show in Minneapolis every year, you can get some great deals at shows like this. I got a great hiking pack for $20 at the end of the sportsman show. It retailed for $140. I don't think they wanted to bring all of their overstock home with them. The pack worked great while I was traveling all over Spain this last sumer.

I had a booth at the ice fishing show for a couple years. It was by far the best show we did. The people were always fun to meet and we would get a lot of feed back and sales on the product. I think as far as deals go it could be a little better but were else can you go and see that caliber of stuff? I like to see some of the new inventions people are coming up with and also it is nice to rub shoulders with the pros. I will be there I just have to decide on a day. Friday night is a good one because the retailers are fresh and willing to talk about there products. By Sunday they get pretty short because every tire kickin guy has asked them for a deal only to walk away after they offer them one. Have fun and buy from the little guy!

I went there this AM (saturday). It was jammed packed. Meet all sorts of old friends, Dave Gentz, Tom George, Kelly Certs. I'm not an ice fisherman so I don't know if there were good deals there or not. People are spending money on gear. I didn't buy one but I will, get an LED lamp that clips to the bill of a ball cap. What a great thing to have just in case you ever did need it. Last week I was thinking maybe I put the boat up too soon. Now it the hard water fisherman's turn. They were at the show in force.

Loosing? Maybe lost is a better term. All of us Bass fisherman tend to go over the edge this time of year in the land of "hard water ".. How about a trip to Taxas or Alabama in Feb or March? Maybe Ga?
