Do you guys who ice fish and such ever catch bass while doing so? What is the most common type of fish you catch ice fishing? Do you catch very big fish fishing this way? I love fishing here in Texas during the winter time. It is the time of year I usually catch my biggest bass.

Bass don't seem to be all that willing to bite in the winter. You will occasionally catch one here or there but its always an accident.

Most guys will either go after panfish (crappie, bluegill, perch) more often in the winter, guys will also always go after the walleye.

Ice fishing can often be some of the most productive time on the water ecspecially early ice. Thats why so many guys are chomping at the bit to get out there.

That is interesting about it being so good early on. Does anyone know why that is? Do you catch bigger walleye or does there seem to be a pattern at all? I love walleye. I wish we had some place close to fish for them. I have an 8 1/2 pounder on the wall that I caught in Washington St. when I was 15 years old.

When we get later in the year and the ice gets thicker and the snow piles up the water starts to lose oxygen so the fish start to slow down and eat less.

When the water temps are really warm in the summer the fish tend to get the same way. So right now and also in the spring we are in between those two slow times and the fish start feeding more.
