CK is out hunting again today. Me on the other hand am stuck back at work. I didn't see any deer on either day. His son got a nice doe Saturday morning. There was a lot of people around and I think that spooked the deer into holding tight and not moving as much. I'm thinking of going out for the muzzleloader season with a guy I work with, he's going to let me use his gun. (he got a new one he's using.) CK did take a picture of me sitting in the stand on Saturday morning.

Morning boys&girls! smile smiley
I have to say that I'm plum tuckered out so I came to work instead of hunting.I'll take a day or 2 to let the deer calm down.
We had more people in the wood than I've seen in 10 years .the shooting opening morning sounded like a war zone.I even pulled out & moved Sunday as 2 guy walked out across this swamp & sat 200 yards away .I let them have it& moved to an area that my boy & I will hunt for the next 2 weeks.I've shot deer there so i know they use it.
Anyway David got a doe 1st thing Saturday. It was a good shot at about 20 yards. She came out of the woods & sniffed his scent wicks, snorted once& stomped. Then she took 2 steps & he put the killing shot to her.
She went about 40 yards & expired.
Scumfrog was a great sport. He was safe& really hung in there.I feel bad that he did not get one,but thats hunting.I did not see one either.Dutch did but the high grass did not allow a good shot & being a conservationist he passed. My dad got sick & stayed home on Sunday.
The 1 Stop registered 305 deer by 7 this morning which is in Aitkin Co & is usually the second highest # after the Freedom Station in Aitkin.
Not bad concidering that we are off of the beaten path & not were 2 main hwys come together.
The biggest buck was a 19 pointer(non-typical)so now most of the yahoos are gone we will let the deer calm down for 2 days & we will get back at them.
Here are some pics & I took video of the gutting only it is 7 minutes long.Photo buckect has a 5 minute max allowed unless you go pro so I'll be going pro for 2$ amonth.

Here is the mighty Scumfrog.

Here is Davids doe. Notice the shot placement,it could have beeen back another 2",but there was no chasing her.

The exit wound was dead center brisket.

Here is what I was looking at,what a view!

With the warm temps.,I'll been skinning her & quartering her tonight after work.Once the meats get good & cold so it stays firm for cutting I'll finish the job in a the day after.
Thanks for comming out SF & giving it a try. I wished you had one walk out like David had.If we had hunters in the woods Sunday pushing deer ,you should have had an oppertunity.Well you still have tags to fill so get out and enjoy your time in the stand.
CK

Thanks again CK for letting me go with you guys, I had fun and will try again next year. But I just found out that I can use my tag any were in the metro area, so I might go out Thursday, Friday night and maybe sunday. Watching that video of you dressing that deer helped me see how it's done I think I can handle it. ooo smiley

SF I luv my new camera. It has sound too,So later I'll post it & when you get home you can listen to me explain what I was doing.
I hope the pics of crappies will get you to come up & give it a try.
I'll have all the gear you need.
Getting slabs is not near as tough as shooting a deer.
hunting county lands is another issue. It looks like I have to pink tpae the area to keep the other guys out. They just moved in & made themselves at home. It's there right to do so,but with my stands in there should have been a clue someone else was there. No common sense I guess.

Yeah that would have PO'd me also.

Did I tell you a dang owl scared the sh-t out of me before the sun came up on Sunday. The dang thing came from behind me and flew right by the stand, flaped it's wings and hit the edge of the stand on the left side with it's wing tips. I almost wet myself. blush smiley blush smiley

I kicked it up out of the swamp. I almost ran it over.It was on the trail & jumped right up in front of me.I thought it to be a hawk, then it flew towards you. I guess I never gave it another thought, too funny! wink smiley

It came up from behind the stand. It could have been a hawk.. All I know is that it scared the sh-t out of me. Did you hear that roaring that was coming from the other side of the soo trail? It sounded like a cougar.

nope, missed that.I've never seen one nor tracks.I wonder what it was. I was too busy getting bombed by chick-a-dees & spooked by red squirels rustleing the leaves.I had a chick-a-dee rest on my gun barrel twice. Also a big pilleated wood pecker was going to town on a log 30 yards away.My dad had a big mink flirting with him sat.
