Locals call it Birchwood--there is a plank sign there that says that, so I guess it is Birchwood. Little lake--MAYBE 200 acres. Does not have a boat ramp so it is all from shore , or a carry in. We often fish it from a canoe. Just a little lake out in the toolies--like a hundred others just like it. The key, as it so often is, is that there is little pressure. There was NOT ONE person there the day we went. And had not been for a good while it looked like from the road/trail in.

I have found that the fall water temp of 50-55 degrees is DYNAMITE MAGIC on largemouth. If there is a "best" time for bigger largemouth then that is it for me--fall with water temps in the 50's. Use some large live bait or large slow wobbling crankbaits, keep it on the deeper side of any green weeds you can find , and that has been the ticket. Occasionally will use a jig-n-pig as a third go to lure, but wasn't necessary on this day. With kids the live bait option is always more exciting for them anyway-- my daughter goes insane when she sees that float go plunging beneath the water knowing a big guy has just put the hook in its mouth--good stuff.

By the way--my daughter caught those fish she is holding. She had a few days off school for break and asked me to please take her fishing! YOU HAVE TO LOVE THAT !!!! Anyway, she had a great day, caught a good number of nice fish, and spent some time with the old man. Doesn't get much better than that.

I wish everyone brought their kids fishing for MEA break... buncha kids running around with skateboards lookin to get run over playing in the street here.

Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!
