I posted this somewhere else, but I think I need to add it here to make sure everyone reads it...

This concerns the rash of posts that have recently been posted here on the forums...

It takes just one to ruin it for everyone. I guess maybe I'll have to control things like the ability for users to post images. Sad, I thought we were all adults here. Or at least had some common sense.

This is the deal folks...

First off. I can ban anyone who abuses this forum. I can ban you by your dial-up account, dsl, t1 or any other type of connection you have. When I put a block on, you will not be able to see any of the site nor send any emails so I won't even know if you are trying to contact me.

Next, I can write this forum so only I or a moderator can give you permission to post images, use a signature file, post links, etc. I never thought I would have to stoop that low, but it can be done. And if I decide to do that, only existing users that I think or the moderators think should have permission to post this stuff will be able to do so.

Come on people... this is a fishing site. Enough about stuff that isn't even remotely related. I have let this go so far, but that's all I have to do is click, and a post is gone or a whole topic, for that matter. Let's try to keep it on topic, okay?

As for tracking users, last month I had someone try hacking into one of my servers. I traced the IP back to their provider. The provider found the account and when the hack attempt was made. It happened to be a school. The school found the exact day and time that the attempt was made right on down to the computer that was being used. That student no longer has permission to use school computers. Bummer, but true. The provider was going to cancel the whole account for the school, but the school talked them out of it. Why would a provider cancel a lucrative account like a whole school? Because it is a Federal Offense to hack into servers! The only reason I am telling you this story is because you would be amazed at the information that can be had when you are surfing. Just by looking at a page, I know your IP, platform, computer, provider, how long you viewed the page, where you are located, etc. And the providers keep track of who is logged in when and they have access to all the account information right on down to the phone number and address.

I am not trying to scare anyone off. That isn't the point. The point is that this is a fishing site and I would appreciate posts about fishing... it's that simple.

Anyway... enough said on this subject. Let's clean it up folks. No more dark stuff, okay? No more black hat...

I personally wouldn't consider hunting topics to be off topic. I personally don't hunt but its a true outdoorsman persuit and you all should be able to talk about it. Throw a few tips in the posts while you are making your plans and I think it should be all good.

ya but this is general so anything within reason flies??I dig hunting & racing to the same level as fishing.
Once we get thru hunting season you'll be flooded with my fishing reports & pics.I've just added a bunch of fishing topics yesterday & I do want to talk fishing ,but i'm not out there doing it. My mind follows what I'm into at the time.I'll try to keep to fishing stuff.
I do like the ability to set uo dates here for what ever we are doing i.e.. fishing/hunting.
I'd add that most guys I know that fish love to hunt as well being true outdoorsmen.

I have to say that I love this site. It is a great place for us to offer questions, concerns and advice about fishing. But, maybe adding another forum area, entitled "Other Outdoor", may be a compromise. They could post hunting, etc in that area, and still keep the fishing for fishing. Not sure if that is an option, just throwing it out there.

Actually, Rob, that may be the ticket. I could start another forum and call it "Not Related to Fishing" as just a general place for people to chit chat. mmmmmmm

Would be easy to do since I reprogrammed everything a couple of months ago grin smiley

What do you all think?
