That's pretty much how I started. And yes, you can get hooked on it. This whole site has been developed from scratch. Most of the other sites out there are php or asp modules that are stolen or bought. There are very few fishing web sites that actually have their own developers. Most of the people running those sites know just enough to pull it off. Take, for instance, LakeState, catch-n, mnsportsman, etc. All of these were not developed by the owners of those sites. They are forums that are purchased or rented or patched together from other people's code. I would be the guy who actually builds the forums. That's what developers do.
Fishingminnesota has a php forum that was hacked to death by someone over there. That is why it looks unique, but it is just hacked code. Pretty colorful too, don't ya think
One of the reasons why all those forums look the same
That's not to say that I can't borrow ideas from them. Pier talked about adding the smiley faces. Well, I looked at some other sites (this is something that is already built into php modules) and I thought... "Heck, I can do that," and viola... There they are. The biggest problem I have for the development of this site is time. I don't have enough of it
Some of you may remember about 8 months ago when some developers in Iraq found a very simple script that would allow changes in administrative privilages to anyone logging into sites running php forum software. Well, about half the sites out there went down because of foreign graffiti. What a hoot. There are definite disadvantages to not doing your own coding
People who fish for food, and sport be damned, are called pot-fishermen. The more expert ones are called crack pot-fishermen. All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen. This is confusing. ~ Ed Zern, 1947
