Looking at the various fish species found in Minnesota, I see that eels can be caught here, apparently primarily in the St. Croix River.

So, has anyone caught one and, if so, was it accidental or were you fishing for it?

I know that eels are very popular in Europe as food, but I've never heard of anyone here eating them. I did find some recipes on the web, but am curious if anyone here has eaten them.

I'm a big fan of unusual fish as sport, and as food, so any help will be appreciated. The DNR doesn't have much to say on the subject.

I've caught 'em. I don't think I would ever eat 'em though.

Nope, not eel pout...eels. Apparently they occur in Minnesota, especially in the St. Croix river. The state record is 6 lb., 9 oz. I've eaten eel in Germany, and I'm just wondering if anyone has caught one here or eaten it.

Sadly, I have family commitments this weekend, and can't come up. I had planned to, but my wife (the social director) informs me that we are doing something else.

Looked like mosly recipes for "baked eel" of some sort or another. I'm sure some might like it--gives me the heebee jeebeeies just thinking about it. Anyone got a good eel recipe they use, eh?

you could get a lotta eel recipes from Iron Chef.. there's a couple shows anyway where eel was the item they used.

What i know is they nailed the head to a board and fileted the eel don the sides along the spine or whatever.. cut into small piees and stewed with potatoes I think .. or something.. soaked in milk to remove odors then stewed.. I don't watch the show to learn to cook.. i already know how to cook, just not fish

Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!
