Flew into Homer, then up to Anchorage where we fished the much touted Russian River,,,,had to hike 2 miles upstream just to have some room, but lots of 20 lb.fish.Then flew to Talkeetna and took a boat to Aniak where we stayed and had the opprotunity to catch literly 1000's of Silvers,Pinks,Rainbows. The average size was 20lbs wth my largest at 38lbs.Most of the Salmon were caugt on 10 wgt.Fly rods using SalmonFlys and Bunny tails. The 38lber was caught on a Spinning rod with a Little Cleo,if it would have been a flyrod I'd still be there fighting it.Absolutely beautiful,BUT,let me tell you about BIG Black Flies

We did see a lot of Grizzlies, but did not realize how big they were,,,saw one standing and clawing an old dead tree, after he left we measured from the ground up to the scratch marks,,,,,13 feet!!!!Also saw a few trophy Moose, the Guide sais they would measure at least 68 to 70 inches.Quite a trip.

BobM,
It sounds like a heck of a trip! I was up there with my parents and two brothers in 2000, we caught salmon and Hallibit. We fished two days on the Kenia and never caught a thing, so it looks like you did better than we did. We really didn't catch any salmon until we went fishing out of Talkeetna, and there we caught our limit. What a beautiful place, I'm happy to hear you had a great trip!

I'm glad someone knows the names of these towns we were at.I took my 2 sons up there with my buddy ,his son and HIS plane.Brian had to vsit his exwife, she's a Native. And they say Texas is big.The boys had a great time with memories to last a lifetime.I would post some pictures but as you can attest, pictures just don't do the views any good.I would like to go later in the year to be able to see all the bears feeding in the streams for winter. But the fishing was nothing but spectacular, just like catching walleyes in the spring.
