You know, a lot of times, lures are designed more to catch fisherman than fish... I'm usually real good about it, but I too have a weakness (occasionally) for the new hot item. So it was with Chatterbaits. Everyone said you have to get them. They are the best lure ever. So here I am like the lemming that runs off a cliff & I buy them. Not just one, too try it, but a few...okay, quite a few. So I took them fishing. And I took them fishing... And I took them fishing... Before you say maybe there were no fish, I occassionally picked up my spinnerbait, or swimjigs to test, and boom, largemouth. I'd move...same thing. Same color, same line, same rod, no bites. Only thing different was the lure. I tested it on 3 different days. I never even had 1 bite on them. Maybe it is just me, maybe I'm more comfortable with the spinnerbait & jig, or maybe it is a fluke... I'm not sure how you feel about them, but I can do without. Plus I can buy 4 swimjigs or 3 spinnerbaits for the price of one Chatterbait. Again, just my opinion...

I believe, that baits that make noise like that, wake up the fish to your next lure presentation. I will throw noisy Rat-L-Trap's and then either a Gulp worm (texas style) or spinner bait and generally catch something. Not every time but at times anyway. Same with Buzzbaits; they always say throw them in a fan pattern then repeat with a regular type lure and fish are keen to biting.

Even a BAD day of fishing is better than a good day of work; paydays excluded!

It's a proven fact that the bass has one heck of a lateral line that is it's ears. So to make noise, should be good ,but I think you have to determine the mood first. Then you can put out the subtle worm or spinner ,if the mood is a aggressive one then the noise may really help. I'm not a bucket mouth guy cause they taste icky ,however when I need some action top water baits are a blast especially in the hot weather we have had.

i have had alot of success with these lures. mainly over the tops of weeds in 8ft of water and shallower to under docks. in deeper water try jigging them along the weed edges have pulled up some nice 5 and 6lbs smallmouth and largemouths with them. i mainly use the chatter mini's they seem to work better. have caught perch bass walley musky pike and trout on the lures. mainly in the shad color. i also put a zoom fluke on them matching the color of the chatterbait.haven't had much success with them without the zoom fluke on them.

The small chatterbait with a fluke (like was previously said) or swimbait on it fished slow over the top of deeper weeds has been deadly for me. It's a great search bait as it can be fished at any depth and easily cast in any wind. Once I start catching some nice size fish on it I'll go back with a larger presentation to try for the larger ones.
