Great story you wove in the story section of the site. I think besides fishing, you may have a different calling. I loved it! I would urge everyone else to read it...

I have to agree...a great fishing story, and this time, it was about the one that didn't get away. Thanks Fisher!

OK - being a muskie hunter i totally loved the story. Big question for me is did The Fisher turn into an esox hunter or was it a one day shot? Adrenaline is soooo addicting, eh?

I think The Fisher will have to answer that one, although I believe he is a muskie enthusiast

It is indeed addicting, and welcome to Esox Stalker. To answer your question Esox Stalker--I was stone cold addicted from that day. I went nuts. Went out and dropped $750.00 or so that week on 3 new rod/reel combos and gear. Each one for specific presentations. 1 for bucktails/spinners/crankbaits, etc. 1 for jerk baits. 1 for live bait presentations. Of course needed a new box and several dozen lures and riggings also. Then next spring also bought a 7 foot salmon spinning rod w/ heavy duty spinning reel and it works great for early season using chubs to twitch over new weed growth or minnow baits that are smaller in size matching the size prey that is predominately in the water at that time. Last year my journal records 43 days on the water. Of those 22 were spent in pursuit of muskies. The remainder of the days were spent on various species. My all time favorite still has to be the small mouth---but at the right times and right weather patterns nothing gets the old mojo going like the mental image of a giant fish following your lure to the side of the boat and you coaxing her to bite right under your feet---that moment of "pure adrenaline rush" is why guys hunt muskies. I love catching all species and try to be multi species proficient--taking advantage of the best the day has to offer--but to get those knees knocking nothing compares with a big wake following your lure and smashing it in your face---Wow , now you got me all excited !!!

Man, I just knew it. Once you have a close encounter of the toothy kind it enters your dreams. Fish for hours, and sometimes days with little action. Then BANG there it is--it really is like whitetail hunting. You stalk and hunt for that opportunity or two that show up per day--but when they do it's worth it. Man, I can't wait for open water--palms are getting sweaty just waiting for it. Think I'll go sharpen some hooks and oil my reels. Gotta switch to decaf......
