Whith all the neat stuff the webdude has taken the time to do to make this site better for us. I for one think we could give him our thanks, by maybe getting one other person to log on.

I also want to know if anyone else would like to contribute to giving the dude a gift that he could use on the opener.

Email me. or better yet maybe one of the older site guys could take donations to make this happen.

I'm in for ten. maybe we could get him a nice pole.

There is really no need for that. I enjoy the making of this site just as much as being a member. If you really want to help out, get a couple buddies you fish with to log on. That would be thanks enough.

By the way Hammer Time, congrats on making "Junior Member." That was the fastest anyone has done that. Keep it up and you will be a senior by the opener :-)

Hey Hammer,

First off, you asked "What do I need to post to?" Here is a breakdown on how I got it set up.

1 - 50 posts = new member
51 - 150 posts = junior member
151 - 400 posts = advanced member
401 - 700 posts = full memebr
over 701 posts = senior member Had to edit these after looking at my code... Sorry - WebDude

I was actually going to tie in an image of some sort to each level. I've seen this on other sites, but quite frankly, starting at guppy and working up to shark or some such nonsense seemed kind of childish to me. Wish I could figure out a way to reward people as they go up the ladder. I am going to set up an email server specially for myfishingpals.com. My new email would be WebDude@myfishingpals.com. Maybe I could give away email accounts to people, but many seemed locked into what they are currently using.

Anyway -- just some thoughts on that.

Second off, I really don't need any gifts or such from you guys. Believe me, I think this site is fun enough to do and is definitely reward enough. I have several sites that I have developed for other companies that have really taken off well. In 2003, one of my sites got picked by Forbes Magazine as "Best of the Web." Another went to 15 million hits per week (translates to about a quarter million visitors) and the company had to move their site to a T3 so they could handle the volume. What I would like to happen is to have this site take off like that. The problem I have found is that it takes a very long time. The site with a quarter million visitors per week took about 6 years to get there. This site is exactly 1 year old TODAY. --- but I lost my database about 4 months ago and had to start over. :-( So I guess I can't celebrate just yet.

What I need is users! Any ideas to come up with more people that would be willing to contribute would be a reward enough. I have a database of all the guides in the state. I have contacted each one of them and asked them to join and in return I would give them free advertisement. Some joined, others were too locked into that OTHER Minnesota fishing site with many users and were afraid to join here. (A lot of wierd politics going on here folks that I probably can't get into. Some of the commercial fishing sites are very disturbed at what I have been doing, one even tried buying me out. I think they don't approve of my non-profit, open-to-all, anyone-can-post-a-link, everybody-welcome, type attitude.) Anyway, enough of that.

I also have a database of all the resorts and lodges in the state. Same thing there too. I contacted each one of them and some joined, some did not. And once again, some were locked into these other sites that charge a fee. anyway, this is getting long winded so...

What I really would like and what would be a great reward would be to get some people to join. I have a vision of a user per lake. Not sure how many lakes there are, but I know there are well over 10,000. Just think! If I could get a weekly report for every lake in the state -- THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!

People are STLL emailing me and asking why I am doing this. Why do I let my competition post here and link here? If you don't already know, here are a few links of stuff for you to read, I think you will get the idea!!

Why More Minnesota Fishing Links?

Why Are Minnesota Guides Joining Our Forum?

And this thread

The last link here is actually a continuation of a thread that started before the database took a dump. Anyway, a fishermen tried posting on the forum of a well known fishing site about a fantastic outing he had with a particular guide. The well known fishing site edited his post and would not allow the address, phone, website or any other identifying link to the guide. The fisherman got very ticked off and asked why he couldn't post info about the guide... Well to make a long story short, the guide was not "a member of the family" ... "did not pay an advertising fee" ... "did not join the 'sponser program'" .. ya da ya da ya da. Well guess what, that guide posts here all the time (not now because he goes south for the winter) and a bunch of his buddies post here too. This is what I am talking about. This is what I want for the site. An unbiased, anything goes, lots of contributors, for the kids too, type of site. And the only way I can get that is by you people.... so....

What I really need would be some more users. I have about half of what I had before. If I stated otherwise in the past, it was because I was embarrasssed about the data loss. (I am supposed to be a professional at this by the way).

Anyway, that would be reward enough. Okee Dokee?

Thanks for the long diatrab here. I do get carried away once in a while... :-)
