"Learn to tie Great Knots!" Just thought I'd post this since I've used their picture a few times in the past. It's one of the many knot tying websites.

I basically have only used a couple knots.. never did join boy scouts or anything.... but now that I've got a reel spooled with fluorocarbon for the first time (ever actually), the knot is more important than just a "trilene knot" because you can't FINISH that kind of not very well with flourocarbon.

Replying to CK about Loop knots on rapala's etc(in the nonsense thread someone created).. I cheat and use snaps instead (without swivel of course) smile smiley

I don't fish rapalas to often on most my trips so I have been known to get lazy and just clip one on to then end of my swivel with a clip.

Seems to work alright, I did this once with a crank bait in the BWCA just becuase I got lazy and was more or less just messing around. Ended up with several decent smallies in a short period of time.

Most of my casting is spoons or johnson silver minnows use for pike.

The other thing about knots is that you need to retie when you start getting fish as the knot will get weak. Any nick or frey is a weak spot.

the 12 lb Vanish I had spooled yesterday did well for me today.. first Flourocarbon experience.. 4 hours of shore fishing after almost 2 weeks of not fishing at all wore my shoulder out smile smiley 4 nice Bass, one dinky little one that was the same size as the rapala rattlin rap, and 3 pike of around 13 inches..

Only negative is once again, the river is still really shallow and every couple times out I'm gonna have to cast my casting plug (an old topwater plug without hooks) to find where I have to remove some line from the reel.. some of it's gotta be frayed even though nowhere near the actual lure.

Btw, since this is a KNOTS thread.. someone tell me, what knot is used to tie line TO your spool first? I've always had my line spooled at the tackle shop, and if the river stays shallow Im gonna need to spool more often and might as well do it myself. Definitely not a KNOT guru .. hence the pictures from that site, that I use for practice.

I put a slip knot on it & trim the tag so it doesn't catch.
On my U.L. I tie the line to the line I have for backing.I keep a full spool without using alot of line to get there. Once you got half way into the spool the line gets more curled. In a pinch i'll stretch the line a bit to get it straight.Too hard & you've pulled all of the stretch that gives you forgiveness out & it will break easy.
