Here is a good one from the weekend.

My working cohort is out with her 2 boys on a dock in Cass Co.
The pole are all tangled up together so Lisa decides to be a Mom & get the pole in operating fashion.
She does not fish & does not own a liscence, but is helping her boys get ready to fish. As she is untangleing a pole the line with a jig touches the water. Just then here comes the DNR. Are you fishing mame the agent says, she goes nope I hate fishing. The agent says was your line in the water she says the line was in the water for just a second while I was untangling the line, well then you were fishing and here is your ticket.
What a raw deal. I wonder if the boys kept fishing or were they shut down!!!
It looks like the DNR is out to educate everyone with tickets instead of the verbal sort.
I also have a good friend totally legal on the dock in front of her home. She had a load of laundry in the washer & the timer went off,so she walks up the hill to put the clothes in the dryer.6 minutes later she comes back down to the dock to resume fishing only the DNR pulls up & gives this 75 year old woman an unattended line ticket.
I just wish I knew who these guys were and had a camera on them to throw a flag everytime they broke a law.
What about the grey areas?

I assume there is a way to appeal tickets from the DNR. This seems like a prime example of DNR being a little overly fussy. She needs to bring this to attention even is she can't get out of the ticket the DNR big wigs need to know that she got such a rediculous ticket and that this officer is willing to hand out such B.S.

The thing about fighting it is it is going to cost her more to fight than the ticket.
The DNR like to watch people with their binocs so why not see if she was fishing 1st,nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Most of the CO's in my area are pretty good. I can tell you that they do like their binocs. On the St Louis here a few miles form my house you get a few fisherman down at the dam chasing suckers early in the spring. The CO's seem to stack up in that area every year and sit on the private side of the river and pick people off with the binocs. I guess I cant blame them, just for the fact there are scavengers that cant wait for the opener and try to take their walleyes home 2 weeks early. However CK your stories are absolutly ridiculous, Like the previous post says, "what about the gray area" A mother helping out her kids gets nicked, isnt that what we are suppose to do, get more youngsters interesting in fishing? I bet mom is a little discouraged about the whole deal. There has been some nasty rumors flying abround about some wardens on red. Once again, I imagine that is a tough job. I beleive the thread was on LSF, or fishingminnesota.

It's a job I would not want, but I deal with the public every day & I do not treat them that way.
I think some of the older more seasoned CO's are better with their people skills .
It seems to me when I run into a CO that is barely old enough to grow wiskers is were the hard nose ,I'm going to make a name for myself type attitude is prevelant.

I was 17 driving moms car, cruise set on 58 pulled over and ticketed in a 55. Young cop tells me i was going 63!! Later that day I took out the GPS and went for a ride. Spedometer was right on the nuts. Just a young jerk trying to make a name for himself. With the meth in the area up here they should maybe worry about findin drugs instead of someone driven 58 mph in a 55. My grandma also had a run in with the same officer. Left our house in the eveneing and got pulled over and ran through sobriety tests. My grandma was late 70's at the time and had not had a drink in years. Just another young prick on his high horse. They dont realize all they do is tick people off. Kind of went off on a tangent here but it just makes me sick. Like you said CK, young guys trying to make a name for themselves. What a bunch of BS

2 seasons ago, the same DNR guy checked my license 3 separate times, the 1st time knowing who my dad is/was(whatever, don't talk to him anyway) and the 3rd time remebering ME finally. He was always nice about it though, never once pushy. After that he'd even go out of his way to talk when I'd run into him at the grocery store or walmart, etc.

Unfortunately I googled him just now and found out he died in October. Lee Alderson was 65 when he died and retired last may.

Not all the DNR are bad but there definitely are a few around here. One actually sat and watched me from 100 yards or so for over an hour, maybe he was just on his lunch break, and left when I "packed up" and was walkin back to the car. Him leaving when I did made me wonder what was up but I never did see WHO he(or she), let alone talk to them.

ya,I see those guys too. We started out with 2 sherriffs now we have over 45 over a 30 year period.
The bumper sticker says it all.

Come to Aitkin County for vacation, leave on probation!

I have a neighbor whois 80 as of 2 months ago. On her 80th b-day she went out had a glass of wine with her dinner. On the way home she was pulled over and recieved a dwi.

My dad has an old time band & on his way home after the gig a 3 cops stop my dad in town at 2am. Not a drop on him and there was no reason to be pulled over outside of ...do you know what time it is? Just so the cop could get my dad to talk to see if he had booze on his breath.
He has diabetes & does not drink.

A woman friend was pulled over no seat belt ,but it would all go away for a sex favor.

A buddyies girlfriend has this sister who was staying with them. Her boyfriend comes up and neefd to store some stuff so dude says ya you can use my garage.
Now the boyfriend is into meth and gets popped. The cops show up at 2 am bust his garage open with no warrent. Now they are at the house door wanting to do a search and tell dude that his newborn baby will be taken if they do not let them in.
I know dude and he does not do the junk.He just about killed the sister for bringing that element to his house.

Anyway back to fishing,You always need to know the rules. It seems that many do not.Just read the DNR CO's report.Ignorance no longer is a way out, never was but it sucks fishing or hunting when you have someone just waiting for 1 slip up.I am not perfect so when will I get the DNR ticket?

I almost forgot I was fishing for Pike Thursday night and had one of the DNR guys walk up behind me, not make any noise and almost on purpose say "Hows the fishing." I mean sheesh, there is a paved trail that he could have at least made some NOISE walking on at 9 pm but nope. It was as if he intended on startling whoever was fishing there.

The younger the officers the more they seem to not know how to be subtle rather than seem forcefull and less personable.

I'll bet his hand was on his gun too.

I sent a letter to the DNR & will post the letter & response if I get one.

Why is it with your spying practices that you gave a woman a ticket helping her young boys to untangle 2 rods so they could fish. The line hit the water while she was getting them apart and received a ticket.
How cowardly of your office to do such a thing. She explained she hated fishing and now I'm afraid that her 2 boys will as well.
Way to go on helping our sport. We really need you out there educating not being as%^&*#$%^&*.
I have seen enough of your antics and will now put you on notice that I will go to all of the places I go too all of my fishing forums trying to generate more stories of the same with the effort of limiting your abilities. I will create a list of people in the Aitkin/McGregor area & around the state to give to our state reps asking for an answer to your callused approach.
I will send request to all of the TV. stations to get some coverage. I'll go to the radio stations and anywhere else I can get someone to listen. I have 5 sportsmen that want to start a citizens task force looking into your practices that is well funded.Tjosvold,Floe Alden are a few in the group. They are business owners and are avid sportsmen.
We have all witnessed your hardnosed approach & will not stand for it any longer We are documenting all occurrences and will submit them to the proper groups for action.

There will be no fight from this poor woman as it will be cheaper to succumb to the cost of the ticket than to go through the court system. How fortunate for you since the State did not give you enough capital to pay your agents long enough to help out a single woman with 2 very young impressionable boys..
