Looking at the DNR survey for Cedar lake shows there are 2 Cedar Lakes in Wright County. I will assume that you will be fishing the larger of the 2 since the smaller lake is under 150 acres without a good access.

If you are looking at just catching fish and it doesn't matter what kind I would suggest going after some Pike. It looks like they are in the lake with really good numbers. The average size is about 20-24 inches so they aren't huge but will be fun to catch.

What I would do is try hitting the shallow weeds on the south end of the lake or where ever you are seeing weeds in shallower water with some access to deeper water. Shouldn't be hard to find this lake seems to have alot of deep water so find those shallow weeds and you will have some pike around them.

Try casting spoons, johnson silver minnow, and spinner baits. Anything shinny with lots of flash should work. Some slightly better then others.

Cast out parallel to the weed edges, focus on inside and outside curves on the edges and you will catch some.

If this still doesn't work and he is still out fishing you then what you do is "accidently" keep casting over his line so that both of your lines get tanlged up so bad that neither of you will be catching fish. That way he won't win. Or you can just break his pole. Both are drastic actions but a win is a win. smile smiley J/K, I can not endorse any intentional sabotage of someone else's fishing gear, just make it look unintentional smile smiley

Not that I get out fished much, but when it comes down to it a crossover & a quick reel in will get his line into your hands at which time I'll say .... oh this is a bad knot & then I bite off his line. There you go,your free now as I'm casting back to the spot.J/K

Hey nofishfisherman,

Keep it up and I might have to put this post in the controversial section ;-)

Keith's post reminds me of the great Match Fishing season on tv. Love all aspects of going head to head fishing against someone.

Now that we know he is fishing in a seperate boat it seems like the controversy would be over. Now all he needs to do is say he CPR'ed a 45" pike and that the camera wasn't working.

So what if the fish was really only 20", if you squint real hard I think you can make it look 2 feet longer. J/K

In all seriousness, if you are simply looking for numbers of fish you should hit the weedlines with your favorite pike lure. The smaller northerns seem to sit in shallow weedy bays almost all year it seems. Once the water gets real warm you may start to see a decline but early in the year even with our warm weather they should still be crusing the shallow bays looking for some munchies.

The bigger fish however will usually leave these shallow areas much earlier and start crusing deeper midlake structure. If you want to get into these you will need to find the midlake structure and troll or cast around these areas. Not going to be a high percentage catch though so if you are simply looking for numbers to beat the bro then I would stick with the smaller guys.

This is all from my personal experience on lakes in the Duluth area. I would imagine that the theory should hold true for most lakes.
