I got skunked on the walleye category, but caught alot of pike. They will make for some good pickling anyway. I was on whitewater reservoir in Hoyt Lakes (no, not whiteface, a different one), and everyone was having a slow weekend. The 5 days of straight rain didn't help, and the water temp on the surface was only 47 degrees. Try a couple different lakes this week, since I am on midnights.

Hope the rest of ya had better luck.

Caught quite a few fish on vermillion on saturday, all little males though. Caught one just over 17 that went back due to the slot. I really wish they would of put a minimum on that slot since we always catch so many small fish.

Well if it had been last week the riv would have made me king ,but instead I sucked at hauling in the winner . For that matter I could not find a walleye.
I tried real hard to get something respectable & I failed miserably.I should have recognized the pattern earlier & went for some crappies ,but the contest was on .I thought I should at least get a few that would be in the running, but to no avail I have a big L on my forhead this A.M.

The only thing I caught Sat night was a ski rope under my chin on a full run.
Nice rash. Thanks to the guys for a good time,Bill said so too as he nodded in and out. I kind of ran him into the ground or water if you will.

I will stay vigilant & keep you guys up to speed on the bite.

I hope your fish fry went well & did the 18.5" take it for the kingdom?????

Fish off & gone

It was tough,on Esquagamah no one had anything that I spoke too,Round was a little better with just a few small ones and BSL had some better numbers ,but the size were tiny too.
It all says to me that it is a little early yet. The surface temp was 52 degrees on all 3 lakes.
As the forage moves to the weedbeds action will pick up.I see 70's comming for the end of the week and the weekend.
By Memorial weekend they should be in full swing.

Opener went well for me. Aside from the cold and rain. Went out about 4:00pm on Sat and limited. Once I did find them on the sonar, as long as I fished em dead still with a lindy rig, they were biting. About 15 ft of water. In a deep trench area between a sunken island and shore just off of a shelf. First fish was biggest, just under 21 inches. 2 more around 18 and others in the 16 area.

Sunday morning, went back but they wouldnt touch the same presentation. Went to jigging shiners on the bottom and caught a few. They stopped on shiners so went back to the leeches till they cleaned me out, biting them in half. Switched to a smaller jig and caught a few more. After about 4 hrs, I had another limit. All smaller, in the 16-18 range. Lost 2 nice fish at the boat and 1 I didnt see.

One of my better opener weekends in a long time!

Jim

Glad to hear you you took up my light work Dadshamp.
No crap,I got beat up all trying tobe The King.I blew it,too bad openers was not last weekend or I'd of had it with several over 5LBS.
The rains are gone so it's time for the sun to come out.

I'm going back to crappies for awhile until we get a week of sun. Then I'll go back to the eyes although Rick may convince me to try it again for the eyes.
The surface temp is 52 degrees and the females are comming in strong.4-6 more degrees and they will have spawned.I should see some dandies so I'll try to get the pics to show off.
You keep fishing& feeding that family of yours. I'd hate to hear the Goddess kicking your %^&*#$%^& because she was hungry.
