Where abouts do you shore fish down in the pool 2 area.
I live in St. Paul and I am thinking about giving it a shot.
I am thinking about the weekend after opener since I can't get out this weekend and I would like to chase some walleye, or smallies.
I don't have a boat so shore fishing is what I am reduced to. If you wouldn't mind giving me some tips I would appreciate it.

If you don't want to post any secret spots but wouldn't mind sharing feel free to shoot me an email. anopp@stthomas.edu

My favorite part of the river. I can give you a couple of suggestions:

First, try below the Ford dam in Hidden Falls park. Lots of smallmouths in there, along with loads of rough fish. I caught a nice big buffalo in there last year on a gob of worms. Everything is there, in the range of rough fish.

Next, the public dock near the Wabasha St. bridge in St. Paul is a great bet, just about anytime. Lots and lots of catfish between the end of the dock and the island. I caught a 20 lb. channel cat there last year, and some folks have caught flatheads in the area with live minnows. Stinkbait on a variation of a Carolina rig works great for the channels, as does most any catfish bait. Worms will get you some sheepshead, and there are tons of BIG carp in that water. You might try small crankbaits around the dock for smallmouths, as well.

Those spots have both worked very well for me, and are easy to get at, even if you have just a couple of hours to fish.

Oh, yeah, the public dock downtown is in Harriet Island park. You can get to it from Wabasha St. or Robert St.

Those are great spot's Mineralman ...Thanks!

nofishfisherman it's not a secret spot and I would be more then willing to help you out, everyone should try at least once to fish Minnehaha Creek......LOL......never a dull moment very cultural and the fishing can be good, it gets heavy pressure, one night this week there were 30 people fishing, the bridge was full and the banks were packed. Once the water drops that will open up a few more spots and allow the use of waders/hip boots I usually go around dark when things calm down.
I'll E-mail you early next week I'm kind of busy trying to get out of town. I don't usually go on the weekends but I can give you some area's to try.
Basically you will be going to Minnehaha Park you can get there from your neck of woods by either going over the Ford bridge and taking you first left or from HWY 55 "Hiawatha ave" and turning east on 56th street "stoplight" and entering the park, stay to the left and you'll see the dog park entrance on your right go 2 blocks to the next parking lot "pay lot" just past the lot you can park for free on the street head over toward the woods and look for a path that will lead you down to a set of stairs "130 to be exact" head down the steps and take a right it's about a block to the mouth of River where Minnehaha Creek enters the Mississippi.

Hey PierBridge; if you ever get down to Harriet Island park or Wabasha bridge. I live right down there, give me a shout and we'll head down there.
