Maybe I am a little hard nosed. Or just maybe I can evaluate the real worth of an object more accurately than some. But for crying out loud..is there a reason that the obtaining of a fishing license and fishing privledges are not revoked for life from these jerks! The same mind set wiped the buffalo from the plains in 30 or so years. Again, maybe this is just to harsh, but I think extra jail time would help these guys. After all, they have committed robbery of the natural resources from all of us, our kids, family, friends, and communities. I take it personal. My dad would have given me a good rear tanning for that. Maybe that's the problem though...not enough trips to the wood shed for these guys. Hopefully they get one now. At least that's how I see it. What do ya think?

To be honest, taking their gear on this one should put the hurt on them.

What they did was wrong, and probably not the first time ether. So they had it coming.

With all due respect, it doesn't seem right that loss of gear is the only penalty. For example, if someone were to commit a robbery and shoot someone in that robbery it would not seem correct for the "penalty" to simply be the loss of the gun. If all that the persons lose in this fishing violaton is the loss of the gear it is no different than the gunman losing just the gun in commission of his crime. I suppose jail time might be too extreme, but loss of all future fishing privledges, SEVERE fines , AND loss of all equipment might seem appropriate. In my mind that puts enough incentive in it to dissuade others from doing the same as these guys. If there isn't a much more severe penalty than the loss of gear then the reasoning would tell law breakers to just use cheap gear in committing this type crime so that if you are cought it costs almost nothing.

The Fisher,

I couldn't agree more. I think anyone who rapes the natural resources like this, and it was definitely blatant, should have all fishing rights revoked permanantly. What reason would any one have for slaughtering hundreds of fish. Seems a waste to me. These people were from Wisconsin. I think they should be banned nationally too. Your done! All fishing rights revoked. There is no way an all out slaughter can be amended by fines, prison, confiscation, etc., that's all we can do is make it so it can't happen again. Gee, I like to take the kids sunny fishing, but this is a bit over the top as far as I am concerned...

I think revoking all fishing rights forever would make people think twice about doing crap like this. It just burns me that people come here and do this. They're not even local!!!! I wonder if they do this crap over from their home state????

I thought about this story today and another thing crossed my mind. For those of you who make your living, or at least part of it, by enabling customers to catch fish by guiding, this takes the food out of your kids mouths and roofs off your heads. If the natural resource is depleted (in this case sunnies/bluegills...next time walleyes, crappie, bass, musky, etc.) you have far lower success rates for those you guide. If they don't catch fish they don't tip as well. OR WORSE don't come back and spread the word that the area is "overfished and fished out". It seems to me that this is even more of a personal theft fom those whose livelihood depends on a decent fishery in the watershed. FOREVER BARRED from fishing access , STEEP fines, and LOSS OF ALL EQUIPMENT will stop things like this. Maybe a $10,000.00 fine , where they have to sell a vehicle or mortgage a house and this will stop. If for no other reason the fear of their wife might jerk their chain.
What do ya think?
