The day started out by meeting Keith at his home in Palisade around 10:00am. We stopped off at the store for a couple of bobbers and off we went to the lake. I brought my two boys Quinn (7) and Codi (12)
We hit the lake and we were off. Well this is when we started to realize that just maybe I should of slept in this morning. Ahhh that would have been no fun. We got to the other side and the Pro-V didnt quite want to go under the bridge. We first tried to ram our way through but luckily the trolling motor stopped us. Minor bracket damage. If thats the worst thing to happen thats not bad. Well then we tried to get under the bridge only to find out we were about 4inches to wide. AHHHHHHH! Then a little voice from the boat says Dad does that mean were not going to fish today?. Keith jumps out and I follow over to the other side of the road and some how we figure we can launch the boat off the side of the road into the creek. So back into the boat back to the landing load it up and over to the creek. We dump the boat right in! Finally we are into the spot! We quickly learn that the water temp is not were it should be and realize fishing is going to be tuff! Keith starts out quickly with a sunfish and we continue to motor around the small lake casting our corks and jigs. We then see some turtles on a log and Quinn decides he needs a pet! So for the next hour I hear nothing but Dad can I have a turtle? Why cant I have a turtle?. We end up anchoring in a corner and doing some casting. We did the best here and the kids really had a blast.
I had to be home by 5:00 to get my daughter from daycare so off the lake by 3:00 was in order. We were very fortunate that the boat came right out and we were headed back to drop off Keith. We get back to his place and look in the boat and his bucket is gone! Ahhhhhhhhhhh! MY JIGS! AHHHHHHHH! (picture home alone) Well they had fell out before the bucket blew out of the truck. This is what happens when your to busy BSing about hunting. I was soon on my way home. The kids had a great day on the water.
I just didnt know my day wasnt over yet. I got just outside of Mora and the truck started to vibrate! AHHHHHHHHHH! What next! I look back and my boat trailer tire looks like and easter egg. I sheared off 3 studs and the other two were just about gone! Unhook the boat and back into town to find studs and nuts. It made for a long day but is still hard to trade a day with your own kids and good friends in a boat!
I guess I had the easy part listening to why can't I have a turtle, mom said I could. The answer was priceless. When you started with you have to be married first and then you have to see if she will let you have a turtle, pricless. The boys were good and I get owly too when I'm not into fish.I know next time things will be different. The water has warmed a few degrees which is why we are seeing the crapps feeding.Caught 80 in the last 2 nights from 7-8:30 .Many doubles which is a good thing.I'm glad to see that was the extent of your troubled day.No one got hurt, which was a good thing.
