This might get old for some of you ,but THE CRAPPIES ARE IN!!!I gave up a very well paying job to move up here from MPLS.Why,fish & game!!Every day I get to go out before or after to get what is ever in season. The crappies are in and what a thrill.I could not stand the tar jungle, nowhere to fish in peace and quite.
Now I have premium lakes at my disposal when ever the mood strikes, which is everyday I can wet a line ,eat a meal of fresh fish and share stories with my buds on those huge slabs we drilled. The deer, geese, ducks, gouse, woodcock all share a massive part of my life.
So when the crappies or the walleyes are active I know it,because I am in them around 275 days a year. You can bet that the jig plays a big part of my fishing expierence and now that it has taken on a life of its own I'm simply along for the ride.We are drilling the crapps as fast as you get back in the water bang,bang,bang!3 more weeks, maybe 4 depending on how fast the water warms. You really should call me to get out there to see for yourselves. There is nothing like it,being inundated with slabs .Night after night and I know they are still in there, because we let everyone of those fish go back into the drink and nobody else is getting theres at all.Well maybe a guy or 2 ,but thats it.

Well after the last 3 nights Rick and I nailed around 100-150 fish in toll. They are getting closer to shore, but they are no where near the spawn yet.I can tell by looking at the color of the males. They have not started to turn smokey black where they are white under the belly and mouth. Our big fish are around 12"-13".

What a payday last night. We hammered the crappies.I'd say 60 in 2 hours of fishing. Dude & I lost several mules.I had a 4 cork night.Between the bass crashing my jig,the tree limbs in the water I lost a few jigs.
Tonight I'll go herd up a bunch for Sat.trip.
The fish are moving in closer and I got a 13" male that is starting to turn black on his forhead. The white gill area is going to smoke too.The Bluegills are in too. We landed some 10" mixed in the crappies. This light rain has been helping,I mean this is the 9th day after ice out so we still have 3 more weeks of U.L. action.

I found a brush pile on a local lake this summer in 20-24 ft of water. When would be the best time to fish this. It looks as if someone sunk them because there are about 6 trees standing upright. Didnt reallly hold alot of fish in the winter and I havent had the oppurtunity to fish them from the coat yet. I am sure it will hold some bass but what about the pannies?

Maybe later in the summer when it gets hot. Right now they should be moving into the shallows. Look for reed or rice stuble on a mud flat or hump. On the north side of the bay where it see alot of sun.2-6 feet of water is where you will find them. If there is a cabbage patch ,maybe try there too. You only put the jig 12"-18" below the bobber. The crappies can see it and will attack. Your jigs are on the way.
