A few notes, information and other tidbits for you users out there. Just trying to keep you all informed as to what is going on with the site and some thoughts I have.

First off, I am leaving my current employment and moving to another company. It is now official. There are many loose ends that need to be tied down and a lot of work ahead for me. I am going to be moving 50 web sites, email servers, DNS, etc. to another location. This includes My Fishing Pals. I have purchased new servers and all need to be loaded and configured. Boring stuff, I know, but I am trying to give you an idea of the workload coming up. What does this mean to you? Well, probably not much. I might be posting a bit less, but will still try to get on once in a while. The mods here will help out, I am sure. The site will go down, probably for about an hour when the cut is made (as fast as I can backup the database and bring it to the new location and load it back into a new server. This will probably happen within the next couple of weeks. I am going to try to do this during off hours (ie. after midnight on a weekend). The new servers and connection are actually going to be faster then this one, but I doubt you will notice the difference. And yes... Hammer, Bobber, Tap Pier... I am still going to do the opener up on BS. So... that's the skinny on the technical front.

Second, I think some of the posts here have been kind of skirting the edge. I am not going to point fingers or single out users but you have to realize that there are a lot of kids that read these forums. I get emails from kids all the time, some as young as 9 years old, and I would just like for all of you to keep this in mind when posting. The forum here and any other place on this site should be open to all people, regardless of age, etc. So before you click "Submit Message" please keep this in mind. I would hate to have parents start emailing me because they think the language or topics are inappropriate for Junior to be reading.

Lastly, I appreciate Iceman and his offer to give away a guided outing for the next hardwater season for the first user to hit 1000 posts. But, if there is any abuse on the forum of people constantly posting just to artificially inflate their count, I may dock your counter or turn it off. It is very easy to do. It is a waste of space to have hundreds of one word posts and the information in those posts does no one any good. I would rather have useful information in posts and I think the quality of posts actually attract other users to join. I don't mind things like "post here when entering the chat room" type stuff. That is actually kind of useful. I don't mind some off-topic stuff either, some of it can be kind of fun and funny. I don't mind a bump once in a while to put a topic up top, I even do that. But keep in mind that I am getting close to 50,000 unique visits a month and many of those visits are from people who have never seen the site. I am trying to build an on-line comminity of fisherpeople and related stuff, and if someone is on the fence as to whether they want to join or not, weeding through hundreds of meaninless posts just to get some useful information is not the way to attract these people. I will fix the forum in the future and bust it up into categories, but I just don't have time to do that now. That way, we can keep fishing reports in one section, general chitchat in another. It will make more sense in the future.

Anyway, just some thoughts. I hope nobody takes offense. I just need to keep a handle on things and move the site forward to the next level. I am hoping the move goes without any major hitches and I think that with the new servers and connection, the site will be better off.

See Ya!

Thanks Much Dude
I agree with what everyone else has said so far. Thank you very much for your time and effort to keep this site going, and updated. I hope your transition goes as smoothly as you're expecting. I look forward to seeing you on the opener. Or maybe before.
