My wife Sara and I were making the rounds again yesterday, checking ice conditions. After checking 4-5 lakes, we drove by the south end of Elk Lake in Zimmerman. At this point, my wife is just giddy wanting to get the boat in the water. You see, she kinda likes to fish (understatement of the year). And what do we see? A fella and his kids in their Pro-V running around the 100 ft or so of open water along shore making waves to break the ice up a bit more. Mind you, its about ready to go already. We drove down the shore line and came back to see him breaking his way through the middle of the ice and a slow chug. My wife, the quiet reserved gal that she is (yeah right), sticks her head out the window and yells, "I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!"...LOL!!!

I have a feeling we will be on the water in the next few days!

Jim

Having a wife that fishes can become very expensive.Mine has a great friend in Cabelas.Whenever the catalog comes there is a fight to see who gets it in the bathroom first.I had to buy her a boat so I didn't have to give her mine .We do have lots of fun with ALL the grandkids all at once now.She has her own wall with mounted fish and her trophies. And it's really bad when her fish are the big ones.

Tap Tap Tap has a great article to read highlighted under his signature. It explains why the crappies were so finicky for the last few months. He refers to trout ,but the jist of his story relates directly to how we fish for ice out slabs. It also ties into my post of if nothing changes, nothing changes.
Way to go Tap

CrappieKeith I understand that to!When I was guiding full time I became an exhusband, she took everything except my boat,,,,how do you drive 180 miles to work without a vehicle to pull the boat with?Yup,those were the good old days, she's on her 4th husband and I'm married for 25yrs.Sometime we'll have to share the same water,I fish the Voyageur and Mille Lacs whenever my boys can get out.I know we'll be at Crane Lake the first weeks of June, and Canada afterward.
